Born into a conservative Afrikaans community on the outskirts of Cape Townwhere electronic music was utterly unheard of and coming of age in a newly democratic South Africa where skateboarding and making dance music became his only two passions and an impossible hope that either could ever become a career. He pursued film editing as his profession and was head hunted by a prestigious postproduction agency where his work in this field yielded honours and top industry awards making him one of the most sought after young editors in the country.
However, the passion for music was always there and he began his own party called TITES (This is That Electro Shit) giving himself the platform to perform his music and creating a following in his home town for the emerging genre of electro. At a time when the doors of SA were bursting open to the rest of the world and electronic music was for the first time no longer a question but a demand, HAEZER became an SA icon and was regularly asked to open for visiting international artists like Skrillex, Noisia, Steve Aoki and Bart B More.
Today HAEZER is one of the top exports of SA’s electronic music scene and has established himself as a leader in the bass heavy electronic dance genre. With 3 headlining tours to Australia under his belt, 2 top 30 Electro House Beatport singles and an EP release on DIM MAK records, HAEZER is proving to be an artist worth keeping an eye on. His recent tour of Europe saw him playing 34 shows across the continent with 9 festivals including Hurricane, Southside, Futuresound, Sunrise and Beatpatrol. His single TROUBLEMAKER (Feat TUMI) off THE WRONG KID DIED EP is featured in EA GAMES latest release of NEED FOR SPEED / RIVALS.
In the UK HAEZER co headlined his debut London performance at club KOKO alongside Crookers and Alex Metric hosted by The Playground and Mad Decent and in NOVEMBER 2012 HAEZER released his first UK single ‘TWO FACE’ on electronic house label BIRTH RECORDS. Earlier that year, HAEZER produced an official remix for PROXY on a DIM MAK and TURBO Records co release for the track called ‘RAW’ as well as releasing his debut music video for his single off ‘TWKD’ – TROUBLEMAKER feat TUMI.
In April 2013 HAEZER toured to AUSTRALIA with ETNIK and in MAY 2013 he toured EUROPE for 3 months playing 9 festivals and various club shows at venues like Razzmatazz (Barcelona), Gretchen (Berlin) and Mistral (Aix-en Province). His latest release, ‘GOLD PLATED FREQUNCIES’ released 02 December 2013 on Tasty Records is a 5 track EP with 4 new tracks and a remastered version of his earlier 2013 single, ‘SHANGO’.
GOLD PLATED FREQUENCIES is a culmination of a year’s worth of studio work for HAEZER who, although mostly known for his harder productions aimed to create a sound that he felt to be more timeless. This is an EP made for the festival show and the club floor and is not tactically driven towards penetrating the commercial market, rather still choosing to explore new worlds with some classic techniques.
RED BULL SA selected HAEZER and two other producers Kuli Chana and Black Coffee to compile a selection of electronic producers to launch their new range of flavors for 2014. This mix was released on a free box and distributed through out South Africa. Every artist featured in the mix is from South Africa.
This month HAEZER launches his latest music video for the track MINTED taken from Gold Plated Frequencies, premiered on EDM blog ‘The Dancing Astronaut’. Directed by Wim Steytler who sent HAEZER his photographic essay on the abandoned buildings in the Johannesburg CBD and the foreign immigrants who have taken these incredible spaces over. The concept for the video is simply a witch doctor who protects a group of refugees from a xenophobic attack with some home brewed magic.
